Barracudas Aim to Train!

Barracudas is committed to giving you the best training we possibly can. This is why we offer you: FREE, nationally recognised and internal courses, across several venues and dates. Attending a training course can increase your wage level and is a great way to devleop your skills.

All members of staff will ideally hold a relevant qualification in order to work on camp. These include childcare qualifications, sporting qualifications and creative qualifications, as well as any of the qualifications gained through taking the courses below. If you are unsure of whether or not your qualification is valid, please contact us.

2019 Training Courses & Dates!

Multi Activity (MA)

The Multi Activity course provides a fantastic opportunity to learn to lead two of our favourite activities on camp! For staff that want to teach children new skills in quad biking, go karting and archery, this one and a half day course is for you! We will not only show you the basics, but we will also teach you how to create fun and exhilarating sessions, including some maintenance tips. 

Having some experience in leading groups of children would be ideal but no activity knowledge is required to undertake the course, as we teach you everything you need to know. If you are applying for a MA role on camp, you will need to undertake this course to fulfil your contract.

Course Length: 1 and 1/2 day

Fencing (BFA)

The Fencing course is led by British Fencing Trainers who attend our training weekends at selected venues and train a group of up to 12 staff. This is a fun interactive two day course that will teach you everything you need to know about fencing. The qualification you will receive is: nationally recognised, valid for 3 years and can be used outside of Barracudas. The course also includes a one hour Epi Pen training session and you are offered a Fencing Instructor role on camp you will need to complete this course.

Paediatric First Aid

We offer a 12 hour, nationally recognised paediatric first aid course. This is a fantastic course that provides: key life skills, knowledge, and is valid for 3 years. It is also a fantastic qualification to have on your CV. The course offers an introduction to first aid, covering numerous areas including: CPR, bandages and head injuries to name a few. The course also includes a one hour Epi Pen training session. This informative and interesting course takes place over two days and provides you with the option to earn extra money by working the Early & Late clubs, which operate from 8:00 until 18:00 at the beginning and end of each day.

Inflatable Training

The Barracudas Inflatables course is an in house, one day course designed to improve the safety of inflatable play. You will learn how to set up and lead safe sessions, while operating some of the most exciting equipment on camp such as: rodeo bull, bungee run, demolition ball and assault courses, to name a few!

Not all camps receive inflatables equipment, for more information contact the recruiter responsible for your camp

Water Park Training

The Water Park course gives you the opportunity to be involved in setting up and operating the water park at your camp. We provide water parks to camps that don’t have pools, which are: Ashford, Cambridge, Chislehurst, Hayes, Hemel, Maidstone, Romford, Streatham & Clapham, Tonbridge, Watford, Welwyn, Wellingborough, Wokingham and Woodford. The water park is always a favourite with the children, so if you are looking to learn some extra skills and be involved in leading some popular sessions, then this is the course for you. Water Park training is a fun and energetic, two hour course.

Course Length: 2 hours

Lifeguard Training and Assessment

Ahead of each season, all Lifeguards need to demonstrate competency around physical fitness levels and current CPR knowledge, through a Competency Assessment. The first hour will refresh knowledge in: CPR & First Aid, Risk Assessment, Hazard Awareness and Emergency Scenarios*.

Led by a trained assessor, this will be signed off and can be used as a minimum of up to 1.5 hours of your required ongoing lifeguard professional development in order to maintain your qualification. You will be paid to attend the assessment.

*If you can provide evidence that you have attended lifeguard professional development within 6 weeks of starting with Barracudas, you may not have to attend the first hour of the assessment. Similarly, with this evidence you may only need to attend the assessment annually.

How to reserve your place on a Training course

If your application is successful...

If your application is successful and you are issued a contract you will be able to register your interest for one of the above training courses via an online form which will appear in the staff room. To have the best opportunity of securing a place on one of our fantastic courses, we recommend filling in this form at the point of signing your contract! Providing there is space, we will book & confirm your place in an email along with all relevant course information a couple of weeks ahead of the course start date. If the courses you have selected are fully booked a recruiter will be in contact with you to discuss alternative dates and courses. If you are offered either a Multi Activity or Fencing Instructor role it is compulsory to attend the relevant training course and you will be guaranteed a place. All courses are valid for three years, if you are a returning staff member you may need to renew your qualifications with us.

Assessment Days

Dates and Locations

It is compulsory for all new general/specialist staff who are issued conditional employment offers to attend an Assessment Day. The day is made up of practical and theory based workshops that will allow you to showcase your skills. This will also give us the opportunity to assess your suitability for your contracted role. The timings for the morning session will be from 9.15am – 12.30pm and the afternoon session will run from 1.15pm - 4.30pm. The day will be a great opportunity for you to meet potential future colleagues and find out more information about the company before your employment starts.

Senior Selection Days

Dates and Locations

You will be taking part in a variety of challenges and practical tasks that will enable you to show off your skillset and give us the opportunity to assess your suitability for a senior position. The timings for the day will normally run from 8.30am - 4.30pm and there will be refreshments provided throughout the whole day including breakfast and lunch.

Compulsory Training

Senior Training

For all new senior staff members it is compulsory to attend one day of initial senior training that covers our standard procedures ahead of your first season in a senior position. Once you have worked a full season all returning seniors must attend annual compulsory training for reviews, updates and site-specific information.

Online Training

Our Online training programme is tailored to your role and will allow you to learn about our Barracudas policies and procedures ahead of your induction training day at camp. All staff must complete the online test; you will be emailed a few weeks before the start of the season to allow you time to complete it.

Induction Training

Induction training is compulsory for all staff to attend which usually takes place within a 7 day period before your camp is due to open. The day will prepare you for camp life and give you an idea of what to expect during your time on camp from registration to learning about the sessions you can lead with your groups; it is also a great opportunity to meet your team prior to your first day! New for 2019, all returning staff will only need to attend for a half day (PM)
