I have just completed my 4th summer working for Barracudas. I started in 2014 as a group assistant and have worked every Easter and summer since. I progressed into the Early Years Coordinator role and as of this year became an Early Years Manager. In this time I’ve worked at two different camps and have thoroughly enjoyed working at both. Working for Barracudas has been really convenient for me, as I started just before I began training to become a Primary School Teacher, which meant I was able to work somewhere for the holidays, not only that I enjoy, but could gain a wealth of experience from. I have worked with a range of people, many that work with children outside of Barracudas also, but all have the same passion and enjoyment working with children. I’ve made some friends for life from working at camp! Going to work every day and being able to have fun with kids and act like a big kid yourself sometimes is a fun way to earn some money over the holidays. I’ve always been supported from when I started, whether it be by red shirts, blue shirts or by the area team or head office now I’m a blue shirt myself; Barracudas has really enhanced my professional development, especially in finding different ways to adapt activities to different children, behaviour management, and leadership skills, all which I can use away from camp. I would recommend working at Barracudas to anyone, but especially to those who would like a career working with children, the experience is invaluable!

I started working at Barracudas in the summer of 2016 as a Group Coordinator in Cobham.

I had an absolutely amazing time, it helped me learn how to coordinate with lots of children and how to run fun, exciting sessions. This experience has contributed greatly to my teaching knowledge and has helped my confidence in and out of the classroom grow enormously.

The managers were extremely helpful and informative, without being intimidating or condescending. They made the whole experience a lot easier for the new staff and ensured we all had a great time.

Thanks for a great summer, Barracudas!

I started working at the beginning of summer 2016 as a Senior Sports Instructor at Harlow camp.

What I enjoyed most at camp was, the range of different activities was so broad it made making the experience as enjoyable and varied as possible.

Working with barracudas has helped me to improve my leadership skills through a hands-on experience. Also this has helped me to gather skills and ideas on how to differentiate any game to get maximum enjoyment for the children.

I would definitely recommend Barracudas to anyone, as there really is no job like it. Every day was different and you get paid to have fun with the children at camp!
All the staff were fantastic and the facilities are amazing! I can't wait to go back!

I have worked at barracudas for five years now and have moved up roles from being a lifeguard to group coordinator to early years manager. Barracudas is just good fun, you get to work with great, like-minded people and help children have an exciting day. Also, I do like that there's opportunities to grow in the roles on camp. I started when I was 17 and I had developed my skills and this has been recognised by management, giving me the opportunity to progress.

Working at barracudas has given me great experience and helped me so much while I was training to be a primary school teacher and once I had qualified. You learn so much from other staff across camp, that you become an expert in creating exciting and fun activities.

At times I have been inspired. I would recommend barracudas to anyone with/wanting experience with children and who is willing to work hard. The people that work the hardest get the most out of the experience. It genuinely is a fun job and you meet really good friends.

I worked at Barracudas in Bedford for 1 week at Easter as the Dance and Drama instructor and 4 weeks in the summer as a Lifeguard in 2016.

Everyday is different at Barracudas, there are lots of great and fun activities for the children which are also fun for the staff to instruct and get involved in too. The staff are all very friendly and by the end of camp you are all great friends. The management team are all very helpful and guide you well when needed.

Working for Barracudas has given me the extra experience I have needed to pursue my goal of becoming a teacher and has given me great confidence towards my current teacher training. I have also learned different sports and skills that I can use in the future.

Barracudas is an incredible company to work for and I would highly recommend it to anyone who would like to pursue a career working with children.

I have worked at Barracudas for 4 seasons as both a red shirt and SSI.

I really enjoy the activities that Barracudas run and working with the kids who create a great atmosphere.

I am a PE teacher but started working when I was still training so helped me gain more experience and practice my teaching skills. Being SSI has helped me gain management experience and is benefiting me in my career progression.

Best Holiday Job!

Last year I worked as an MA in Norwich, this year SSI in Wokingham.

The atmosphere at Barracudas is something I've never experienced before in a work place, it provide an amazing working environment.

I've never been so willing to "get up and go to work"- my days would go so quickly, and I'd enjoy it all.

Both teams I've been apart of have been brilliant, everyone is lovely, fun loving and enthusiastic.

I'm currently studying medicine at university and this may seem like an odd choice of holiday work- but absolutely not!

I've learnt so much in such a short amount of time:
1. How to communicate with children better, how to explain things clearly so they understand first time.
2. How to liaise with parents both face to face and over the phone
3. Understanding how best to tackle "sticky situations"
4. How best to manage people
5. Learning behaviour management skills
^these are just a few examples of skills I've gained this Easter.. The list would go on and on..

I think working in 2 different camps has benefited me enormously as I've been able to see different ways of doing things/ tackling things. For example "Explore "n" Play" session- witnessing 2 different styles has only given me more ideas for the future.

Honestly, this job is perfect for anyone who has an interest in working with children: social work/teaching/physio/OT but is also indescribably valuable to anyone working with people- learning how to run structured sessions whilst having to constantly behaviour manage and be aware of H&S legislation, will benefit almost anyone!

A more senior role is perfect for those wanting to improve and demonstrate managerial skills (which employers love!!)

I'd also like to mention, your work with the children is not in vain at all- parents were so appreciative of our work! On our last day of camp parents were so grateful for the care we'd shown their children and how much fun their children had had.

I've had numerous part-time/holiday jobs and this tops them all!
