Roles | Early Years Group Leader

Whatever your role at any Barracudas camp, your primary responsibility is to ensure: the health, safety and welfare of the children in your care, to safeguard them and protect them from harm. Once these fundamentals are ensured, you should aim to give each of them such an amazing experience they can’t wait to come back!

Responsibilities: As an Early Years Co-ordinator, you will be mainly working with our youngest children on camp (those who are still 5 on 31st August). This group have huge amounts of fun, but we are never sure who has the most, the staff or the children themselves!

Duties include: 
• Plan and deliver a variety of activities with structure and enthusiasm 
• Encourage maximum participation of the children in the group whilst following OFSTED guidance
• Advise your Group Assistant
• Set up and maintain a suitable base room area that is inviting for the children
• Follow policies and procedures to make sure the children in your care will have a fun time in a safe environment
• Ensure that the needs of the children in your care are met with active supervision and attention throughout the day, including breaks and lunch times
• Be the parents key worker and manage the exchange of relevant information regarding their children
• Get to know the children in your group as individuals, find out their likes and dislikes and incorporate these into their day on camp 
• Ensuring the Early Years Foundation Stages are implemented 
• Facilitate children’s development through explore and play sessions

Requirements – You will:
• Have undertaken a minimum of 300 hours of assessed placement, or hold a relevant childcare qualification
• Have knowledge and experience within the Early Years Foundation Stage
• Ensure that the pastoral needs of the children in your care are well-catered for, through active supervision and care throughout the day, including breaks and lunch times
• Be aged 18 or over by the time you start
• Be eligible to work in the UK
• Provide satisfactory references 
• Be enthusiastic, caring and organised, with excellent communication skills and are able to use your own initiative
• Be able to adapt to effectively deal with unpredictable challenges within a childcare setting
• Obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas.
• Attend an Assessment Day if you’re new to Barracudas. These take place over the weekends at various locations. You can view the 2019 Assessment Day dates here. This day will contain a mixture of practical and theory based workshops.
• Complete relevant online training modules annually.
• Attend an Induction Training Day (this will most likely take place within the 7 day period before your camp opens).
• Assist at pack up at the end of camp, if required

Age of children: 4½ -6 years
Hours: 08:30 – 17:30
Salary: £295.00 - £450.00 per week (dependent on age, qualifications and experience)

NB: The above is an example of what may be involved in your duties as an Early Years Group Co-ordinator and is designed to give you an insight into what the role entails. Your day may be similar to this but not identical and will include a range of other tasks and responsibilities.
