Staff Testimonial

I have just completed my 4th summer working for Barracudas. I started in 2014 as a group assistant and have worked every Easter and summer since. I progressed into the Early Years Coordinator role and as of this year became an Early Years Manager. In this time I’ve worked at two different camps and have thoroughly enjoyed working at both. Working for Barracudas has been really convenient for me, as I started just before I began training to become a Primary School Teacher, which meant I was able to work somewhere for the holidays, not only that I enjoy, but could gain a wealth of experience from. I have worked with a range of people, many that work with children outside of Barracudas also, but all have the same passion and enjoyment working with children. I’ve made some friends for life from working at camp! Going to work every day and being able to have fun with kids and act like a big kid yourself sometimes is a fun way to earn some money over the holidays. I’ve always been supported from when I started, whether it be by red shirts, blue shirts or by the area team or head office now I’m a blue shirt myself; Barracudas has really enhanced my professional development, especially in finding different ways to adapt activities to different children, behaviour management, and leadership skills, all which I can use away from camp. I would recommend working at Barracudas to anyone, but especially to those who would like a career working with children, the experience is invaluable!

DBS Policy 2018

New for 2018 all Barracudas staff must obtain an enhanced DBS check through Barracudas. This is in line with Ofsted requirements.

If you have an external DBS that is on the update service and you can send us the original certificate, Barracudas can accept this also.

Currently an enhanced DBS check costs £52 and is valid for 3 years. Barracudas will cover 50% of the cost for your DBS with us, meaning you only pay £26 for your DBS. This cost will come out of your seasonal wages after working on camp, you do not have to pay up front.

If you attend and pass one of our FREE Barracudas training courses, or if you are a senior member of staff and you attend the Senior Training Day, your DBS will be paid for in FULL by Barracudas.

If you are attending an Assessment Day, Senior Selection Day, or Training Weekend, you can bring your ID to these days to be verified, and your recruiter will then process your DBS.

If you are a returning member of staff and are not attending any of these days, you will need to post your original pieces of ID into the office to be verified. We recommend sending these by special delivery as it is the quickest and safest method. We will then return these documents the same working day we receive them, via special delivery.

Before your DBS can be processed you will need to complete an online form, without this, your recruiter cannot begin the process. More details will be sent to you once you have received your Barracudas contract.

A DBS check can take time to be completed once they have been submitted. So, it is vital that your recruiter is able to begin this process for you as soon as possible, as we cannot have staff on camp without a valid Barracudas DBS.

If a DBS has been processed for you and you are unable to fulfil your contract with Barracudas, you will still be liable to pay the full £52 cost for your DBS.
